18 -21: Your classroom is obviously a very happy, lively and safe place to be. You strive to make learning fun but challenging and actively encourage ‘having a go’ and making mistakes, which are merely an opportunity for learning. Smiles are in abundance and students have taken on board your efforts to create a caring culture, where everyone’s contributions are welcome. They know you care for them at every level and have no qualms approaching you for advice about their work or personal life. It is evident that they have adopted your values and actively care for each other as well. Congratulations – you can be assured you are making a difference.

13 -17:  Your classroom is above average in terms of being a fun place where students feel secure to learn/. There is a positive mood in the room and a positive, encouraging rapport between you and your students. Keep up the good work and building a climate of interesting and engaging learning opportunities that make your students feel good about their achievements.

7 - 12: Well, there are moments of positivity and fun to be had in your room but they are may be a bit too sporadic to be called a ‘culture’ for learning.  Think about the aspects you might be able to improve upon. Can you be a bit more spontaneous, respond to what students are telling you ‘in the moment’? Are your own energy levels ok?  – be sure to take care of your own health and well-being so you can pass on some surprising and enjoyable teaching moments that students will remember and respond to with a smile.

0 - 6: Your classroom needs a transfusion of laughter and energy. Students must look tired and disenchanted (and you too presumably?) Ask yourself what needs to be done to transform the atmosphere in your room and make the learning engaging and interesting. Small changes will pay dividends. Get some advice from a colleague who has lots of positive vibes and start to build some positivity tomorrow. Make it your mission to make at least one student smile tomorrow.
